Our Offices

What is a pediatric ophthalmologist?

A pediatric ophthalmologist is a medical doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating eye conditions in infants, children, and teens. Unlike a general eye doctor or optometrist, a pediatric ophthalmologist completes advanced residency and fellowship training focused specifically on children’s vision and eye health.

When should my child see a pediatric eye doctor?

Children should have their first comprehensive eye exam between 6 and 12 months of age, again at age 3, and before starting school. If your child shows signs of vision problems such as eye misalignment, frequent squinting, headaches, or difficulty reading, schedule an evaluation sooner.

What conditions does a pediatric eye specialist treat?

A pediatric eye specialist treats conditions such as: Strabismus (crossed or misaligned eyes) Amblyopia (lazy eye) Pediatric cataracts Myopia (nearsightedness) Astigmatism Glaucoma in children Eye infections and vision development concerns

What is the difference between an optometrist and a pediatric ophthalmologist?

An optometrist provides routine eye exams and vision correction. A pediatric ophthalmologist is a board-certified medical doctor trained to diagnose complex eye diseases and perform eye surgery for children when necessary.

Do you perform eye surgery for children in El Paso?

Yes. Our board-certified pediatric ophthalmologist provides advanced surgical treatment for children when needed, including strabismus correction and pediatric cataract procedures.

Is your office only for children?

Yes. Children’s Eye Center is a pediatric eye care clinic dedicated exclusively to infants, toddlers, children, and teens. We focus entirely on children’s vision health in a comfortable, child-friendly environment.
